‘DO NOT PANIC’ is an animated art project conceived during the global circumstances of the 2020 pandemic, taking its inspiration from the chaos and uncertainty around real-world events, channeled into a creatively animated public service announcement.

The project introduces the character PANKUN, a well-intentioned alien visitor from outer space. PANKUN steps into the role of the messenger, offering messages of encouragement and unity to humanity in a time of crisis.

Creating the animation involved using a real propagandistic animation produced in the 1960s for a Japanese nuclear factory. Each frame of the original animation was meticulously re-colored and edited, adding a layer of interpretation to its original context as a message of eternal recurrence and governmental propaganda.

Parallel to the digital animation, a vacuum-sealed kit was released, further blurring the lines between fiction and reality. Included is a shirt and mask, extending the narrative beyond the confines of the screen and into the hands of the audience.

In its entirety, ‘DO NOT PANIC’ incorporates elements from the animated world into tangible reality, standing as an artistic response to a global crisis by promoting resilience and unity through its interplay of animation and physical artifacts.
